Interviews from 'Global Food Situation'

Recap the highlights and atmosphere of the Global Food Symposium. Hear the host, Anne Birgitte Albrectsen, Head of Department, Humanitarian Policy and Assistance in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as she explains the purpose of the Global Food Symposium.

"Food security is truly one of the single-greatest investments we can make in the future prosperity, health and stability of our planet..." says John M. Powell in his speech on humanitarian challenges of the global food crisis.

In 2007 food assistance was included in the ECHO budget line. Hermann Spitz from ECHO talks about the dilemmas and challenges of providing food assistance in both a crisis situation and in an early recovery setting.

When discussing the causes and possible solutions of the global food crisis, Chris Leather, Head of Emergency Food Security and Livelihoods Team, Oxfam, says: "There needs to be a political will to address the hunger issues of the world."

John M. Powell points to three central issues when trying to address the international food crisis: climate change, high food and fuel prices, and increased investment in small farmers on a long-term basis.

Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen, Head of Humanitarian Assistance and NGO Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark, speaks about the scale of the global food situation and how we can become better at addressing the underlying causes of hunger.

Sally Thompson, Deputy Executive Director, Thailand Burma Boarder Consortium, tells about the situation of Burmese refugees in Thailand and how food production is used for income generating activities.

"We need to look at the value-added in our co-operation and efforts to fight hunger..." Henrik Stubkjær, Secretary General, DanChurchAid, Denmark, says. Listen to his speech on the global food crisis.
